Programs and Events
Killington is proud to offer many wonderful programs and events throughout the year. Visit the home page for programs currently open for registration

Year Round
  • Bone Builders Workshop each Monday and Thursday at 10am Killington Seniors are invited to attend a FREE Bone Builders workshop held at the Sherburne Memorial Library. No experience necessary and all strength levels are welcome. Weights and instruction are provided.
  • Movie Matinee each Monday at 1pm at the Sherburne Memorial Library. Please visit the Library's website to find out this week's movie.
  • Senior Lunch each Wednesday most of the year, the Killington Active Seniors meet at noon for lunch at the Lookout Tavern on the Killington Road. Each participant is encouraged to make a $5 donation towards the meal and the remainder including tax and tip is graciously provided by member contributions, the Killington-Pico Rotary, the Greater Killington Women’s Club, the Town of Killington and the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging.
  • Book Club on the last Wednesday of each month the Book Club meets at 1:30pm at the Sherburne Memorial Library Vermont 
  • Swim Team Training is available through the Killington Aquatic Club at the Pico Sports Center
  • Date Night are scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year to provide fun, supervised group activities for a few hours in the early evening for children ages 3-12 while their parents go out on a date. Pre-registration is required and registration will be closed once a 20 child maximum is reached.
  • Hiking and Biking trail maps are available
  • School Dances are held throughout the school year for grades 4-6. The $5/person entry fee helps cover the DJ.

Fall
  • Fall Youth Soccer teams ranging from little squirts to U12 with games played on Saturday's in Rutland, VT.
  • Duathlon choice 100 yard swim and 1 mile run or a 500 yard swim and then a 5K run. All ages welcome as long as they are able to both swim and run one of the choices offered. Free training sessions available. All proceeds go towards Recreation program scholarships.
  • Trunk or Treat Halloween Party
Winter

Summer
  • Swim Lessons are held in 2 week sessions and meet rain or shine. Each lesson is ½ hour long and is divided up by skill levels. Private swim lessons, evening lessons and adult learn to swim programs are also offered.
  • Summer Swim Team program is designed for youth up to age 19 who have passed level 3 of Swim Lessons and are interested in competitive swimming. The practices are 5 days a week with two evening practices. A Junior Swim Team which swims on Tuesdays and Thursdays also is offered. Both teams compete at swim meets.

  • Forth of July Celebration and Fireman's BBQ is one of the most popular events in the summer! The day begins with a parade down River Road, food cooked by the Fire Department and volunteers, raffle, field games, belly flop contest, DJ during the day, live music in the evening and ending with a firework display.
  • River Road Concert Series is a fantastic family activity that is free and open to the public. Concert patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or blanket to sit and enjoy the music. Concert series is held on Thursdays from 6-7:30 pm during July and August at Sherburne Memorial Library. Don't forget to pack a picnic basket for dinner or snacking!
  • Chili Cook-off Fundraiser is a wonderful family event with live music, a raffle and chili entries from area restaurants and groups. Try all the entries and vote for your favorite while helping to raise money for recreation scholarships.
  • Killington Active Senior's Picnic from 4-6 pm at the Johnson Recreation Center on a Thursday in July or August TBD. At 6 pm the River Road Concert starts just down the road from the picnic. Hamburgers and hot dogs are provided and the seniors bring a salad or dessert to share.
  • .5K Dash for Donuts is a fun annual family fundraising event where participants start at Johnson Rec and "dash" to Sherburne Library while enjoying plenty of donuts and drinks (beer, juice and water) along the way.

The following programs have been held in the past but there was not enough interest to continue holding them. However, if there is enough interest in one of these programs going forward, please contact the Recreation Director and/or Recreation Commission so the program may be re-initiated.

  • Painting Workshop each Tuesday from 10am to noon Killington Active Seniors join a Painting Workshop held at the Sherburne Memorial Library
  • Over the Road Seniors each Tuesday when the weather is cooperating Killington Active Seniors walk at their own pace with a group of their peers. All are welcome to meet at the Sherburne Memorial Library on River Road at 9:30 AM. We walk towards the Town Office and beyond - or as far as you wish - and return to the picnic shelter at the Recreation Center for rest and conversation. No time limit, no set pace, and no required distance to cover but please bring water for hydration.

  • Halloween Party hosted at the Elementary School by the 6th grade class. Event begins with a costume parade and includes games, bake sale, contests and a haunted house
